Job description:

An HTL Clinical Histotechnician is responsible for performing all necessary histology procedures related to projects including but not limited to grossing, trimming, processing, embedding, and staining of non-human and human samples in a clinical and non-clinical setting. The Histotechnician must demonstrate ability to work independently.

In a clinical setting, the Histotechnician will perform various tasks required for receiving, processing, preparing, and analyzing patient tissue specimen in accordance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements.

Job duties:

  • Use automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, autostainers, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Performs fixation, tissue dehydration, embedding tissue (OCT, paraffin) sectioning, staining of slides (H&E, special stains), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and in situ hybridization (ISH).
  • Prepares solutions, stains, and reagents in accordance with SOPs.
  • Ensure proper functioning, maintenance, and cleanliness of all laboratory equipment and work areas, including proper documentation
  • Records number of tissue blocks verifying proper identification and label.
  • Print slide labels in accordance to relevant SOPs.
  • Performs and monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required
  • Shows ability to handle unexpected situations and is able to exercise independent thought and action.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including computerized documentation, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ensure all materials and reagents are stored in appropriate conditions and are not expired
  • Maintains good interpersonal relationships with co-workers and with people in general
  • Promotes an environment in which the laboratory staff can work together cooperatively toward objectives
  • Accepts accountability and responsibility for actions and own behavior.
  • Continually look for new and more efficient ways of performing tasks to improve the capabilities and capacity of the histology lab.
  • Shows willingness to assist other laboratory personnel as workload permits, including members of the HTL team, when requested.
  • Encourages other lab personnel towards professional growth and development by sharing information
  • Keeps current with changes in laboratory procedures
  • Organizes work for effective utilization of time

Qualifications:

  • Meets one of the following requirements:
    1. Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of zero to one (0-1) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician I), five (5) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician II), or ten (10) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician III).
    2. Associates degree with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician I), seven (7) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician II), or twelve (12) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician III).
    3. High school education and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician I), ten (10) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician II), or fourteen (14) years’ experience as a histotechnician (Histotechnician III).
  • Must be a registered Histotechnologist (ASCP, HTL) or Histotechnician (ASCP, HT), or eligible for such registration.
  • Spatial ability is required to perceive three-dimensional and geometric relationships when cutting paraffin blocks and making embedding molds.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate the micro-thin tissue sections and to mount onto microscope slides
  • Color discrimination required to verify diagnostic quality of staining processes in order that essential features of tissue sections can be properly defined.
  • Willing to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual.

Job description:

The Quality Assurance Specialist position works closely with the Director of Operations and Laboratory Director to ensure employee and patient safety, achieve, and maintain CLIA and CAP compliance, and ensure the highest quality standards are maintained. This position is responsible for identifying and resolving quality and compliance issues at HTL Clinical. This position tracks quality performance and makes decisions concerning the quality issues by working directly with personnel in administration and the laboratory.

Job duties:

  • Work with the Director of Operations, Laboratory Director, and laboratory personnel to improve and maintain CLIA laboratory policies and other Quality System procedures.
  • Maintain and improve Proficiency and Competency procedures.
  • Conduct internal audits of laboratory processes, and safety procedures.
  • Direct external audits, including CLIA inspections and client audits.
  • Part of cross functional teams responsible for implementing new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures using the appropriate design and development procedures.
  • Work with laboratory personnel, admin, IT, and other cross functional teams to ensure compliance with Quality System Procedures, laboratory procedures, safety, and HIPAA standards.
  • Work with the laboratory team to ensure laboratory equipment and reagents meet performance specifications.
  • Help to establish a Laboratory Information System (LIMS) by identifying information needs and problems, recommending improvements, establishing priorities, training employees, and maintaining security and confidentiality.
  • Record, investigate, and manage complaints related to laboratory processes
  • Manage CAPA investigations and implementation of action plans.
  • Assist with management of the HTL Clinical Quality System.
  • May assist in the inventory and preparation of samples.
  • Ensure effective implementation of all company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates the HTL Clinical culture
  • Reports any problems or issues promptly
  •  Attends necessary meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or equivalent; degree in Molecular Biology or equivalent Life Science field is preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Quality Management Systems.
  • 3 years of combined experience CLIA and/or CAP regulated laboratories preferred.
  • Commitment to high level of customer satisfaction
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in writing laboratory SOPs and other QMS documentation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and other basic productivity applications.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and cross departmentally.

Job description:

An HTL Clinical Scientist performs a variety of laboratory procedures and image analysis using established methods and techniques under general guidance. A Scientist conducts moderate and high complexity experiments in the fields of histology and immunohistochemistry, including interpretation of data, creating presentations, and writing reports. Additional duties include project management, quality assurance, client liaison, and business development.

This position requires a minimum of a PhD with 0-2 years of relevant experience OR a MS with 2-5 years of relevant experience. 

Job duties:

  • Follow HTLC’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, and reporting.
  • Adhere to the HTLC’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Perform high complexity testing (immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and in situ hybridization) under the onsite, direct supervision of HTLC’s general supervisor.
  • Perform related duties and tasks within the histology laboratory or scanning department, as needed.
  • Develop and optimize algorithms using image analysis software to quantify biomarker-stained slides.
  • Create or review presentations and reports, including but not limited to Antibody Development Reports, Study Protocols, and Final Reports.
  • Working with the Project Manager, ensure all established project timelines are met within budgetary requirements.
  • Create, review, and edit new SOPs, as applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with HTLC’s Quality Assurance Plan
  • Support the Business Development team by attending and assisting on client visits, meetings, and scientific meetings.
  • Serve as client liaison by interacting with clients via email, teleconference, phone, or on-site meetings and understanding client goals and needs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Meets one of the following requirements:
    1. PhD with a minimum of zero to two (0-2) years’ experience (Scientist I), up to (5) years’ experience (Scientist II), up to ten (10) years’ experience (Scientist III), or 10+ years’ experience (Senior Scientist).
    2. MS or MA with up to (5) years’ experience (Scientist I), up to ten (10) years’ experience (Scientist II), or 10+ years’ experience (Scientist III) or 15+ years’ experience (Senior Scientist).
  • Color discrimination required to verify diagnostic quality of staining processes in order that essential features of tissue sections can be properly defined.
  • Willing to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual.

Job description:

An HTL Clinical Pathologist provides professional oversight and direction of clinical pathology services including quality assurance functions, medical directorship where indicated (per CLIA), and technical direction as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and timely diagnosis of the presence and stage of disease from a tissue specimen, utilizing appropriate laboratory procedures.
  • Be familiar with and able to recommend clinically appropriate testing, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH).
  • Takes the initiative to improve quality in the workplace. 
  • Participates in and coordinates QA activities to ensure quality care and evaluates the effectiveness of quality assurance policies and procedures to enhance standards and excellence of service in the laboratory and Company.
  • Provides others with the support necessary to successfully accomplish daily activities while monitoring and controlling costs.
  • Provides consultation to clients regarding study design and clinical significance of laboratory results and data.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patient samples, employees, clients, vendors, and the Company.
  • Actively builds upon education and experience through Continuing Medical Education (CME) to maintain licensure/credentials.
  • Provide educational services, conferences, and instruction where required.
  • Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as Company rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
  • Regulations and Documentation
  • Operational support and coordination with QA (Quality Assurance), laboratory departments, and BD (Business Development).
  • Documenting the review and reading of all HTL Clinical (HTLC) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Updating and maintaining SOPs as requested.
  • Assisting in business audits
  • Identify, develop, and execute short- and long-term strategic business opportunities to expand HTLC’s clientele and services.
  • Actively network within the industry to establish and retain relationships as well as identify business opportunities.

 

Qualifications:

  1. MD or DO degree plus accredited pathology residency.
  2. Must be board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
  3. 2-3 years post residency experience desired.
  4. Must hold valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state where practice is located or be eligible to obtain licensure.
  5. Finger dexterity required to manipulate the micro-thin tissue sections and to mount onto microscope slides
  6. Color discrimination required to verify diagnostic quality of staining processes in order that essential features of tissue sections can be properly defined.
  7. Willing to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to spend consecutive hours with continued focus, interpreting tissues and cellular preparations through a microscope.
  • Ability to visually, audibly, and physically perform all job functions.

 

Lifting Requirements:

Medium – generally not lifting more than 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
